The U15 rugby team progressed to Round 5 of the Natwest Vase (formerly Daily Mail), beating RGS Colchester 34-15, last week on Thursday 28th November. Felsted started badly and were 10-0 down after 5 minutes. Two quickly taken tapped penalties led to two soft tries. However, this team have grown in stature and after 10 minutes constant pressure, Hugo Brown forced his way over to start the come back.
Further tries by Archie Lucas and Hugo Brown, one converted by Sam Holland, meant that Felsted led 17-10 at half time. Felsted dominated the second half but it took a further 15 minutes before they extended their lead. After several phases Mickey Barton scored under the posts. From the resultant kick off, Dan Lowe caught the ball and ran the length of the pitch to score. A few minutes later Archie Lucas jinked his way around and through five defenders to score under the posts. With some of the replacements now playing RGS scored a try with the final act of the game.
At this stage Felsted's opponents in the next round are unknown but it will be a home fixture in the last week of this term.
It was a disappointing week for the 1st XV in the NatWest Cup, despite a spirited performance against last year's winners, Dulwich College. After a 1st half in which the team struggled to cope with their opponents, they rallied and reduced the deficit to just 9 points at the final whistle, coming away with a creditable 41-32 defeat.
