2nd XV vs Norwich School

Result: Lost: 0-12 L

A frustrating afternoon after a long journey is all the could describe a game which could have been a great fixture but was dominated by poor decision making and luck not going Felsted's way.  However, despite the score line there was some excellent aspects to the boys' play including their attitude in defence and the work of the forwards in dominating the scrum.

U15 A v Beths Grammar School (Daily Mail Vase)

Result: Won 10-13
Tries: Hitchcock
Cons: Lennon 1
Pens: Lennon 2

Review: Felsted moved into the regional semi-final winning their Round 5 Daily Mail Vase match against Beths Grammar School. In a tight first half chances were few and far between with defences on top. Matt Lumb demonstrated that at full back he had the pace and ability to read the game collecting many kicks, clearing either with the boot or making valuable ground and making vital one on one tackles. Injuries to Simon Holmes and Stefan Warner disrupted the team line up but the versatility of many players ensured that tackles were made and shape maintained. With Ehren Painter coming on it was the first time since the second game of the season that both he and Matt Lumb were playing at the same time! Felsted were awarded a penalty midway through the second half which James Lennon confidently converted from outside the 22. A poor reception from the kick off allowed Beths to respond immediately scoring in the corner an unconverted try. Again Felsted were under pressure but from a long relieving kick Alex Jackson was obstructed. A surprised James Lennon was instructed to go for goal from long distance and he was successful! With not long to go George Hitchcock made a break from the half way line. On the 22 he was held by one player, on the 5 yard line he was held by two. Over the try line, he forced the ball down held by three players. James Lennon was successful with the kick. With the last move of the match Beths scored an unconverted try.
Man of the Match: Matt Lumb

1st XV v Wymondham

Result: Won 36-15
Tries: Hunter-J, Singleton, Latham, Chaplin, Polkinghorne
Cons: Malins W

This was again a game that showed the confidence of the XV. They will be slightly annoyed that they didn’t finish the job off more ruthlessly when 36-0 up and 20 minutes to play, but a combination of taking the foot of the gas, playing a big powerful XV, making a few substitutions and coping a few odd decisions, the XV lost momentum. However, the sparkling performance of the first half will live long in the memory. The ground was heavy, but from the moment William Malins miskicked a chip and gathered it to send Hunter-J in the corner to Polknghorne’s wonder run from kick off to cut through the defence and outpace the full back to the try line the crowd witness some serious tries. The pacey Singleton given space is dangerous and he proved that with excellent finishes. The growing confidence and performances of Latham in the middle of the park has been a big factor in the last 7 game unbeaten run and he continued again tackling hard and running with power and pace. Wymondham found there feet in the last quarter, but the game was gone long before.
