1st XV v Bishop’s Stortford HS

Result: Lost 6-34
Review: This fixture was always going to be a tough encounter against an experienced XV with several key players missing. The XV that played certainly showed spirit, but the core skills essential to the game broke down under pressure. The line out really suffered after functioning well the week before and the XV struggled to secure quick or decent ball for the backline. We had some excellent attacking play, but this was killed and the resulting penalty, only really allowed the opposition to get reset. The main issue was putting the phases together and the XV could not get the quick ball that would have enabled the team to go wide against a narrow defence. The High School deserved their win on the day and on the day we lacked the weight to counter their size and strength. They are a XV that will do well this season and the Felsted XV should be pleased with the tackle count, but not with the basic errors that played into the hands of the opposition.
Man of the Match: William Hiett, Max Malins and Hugo Chaplin
