2nd XV v Bishop's Stortford High School

Result: Lost 8-20
Review: A chance that went begging is the only way to describe what became quite a frustrating afternoon on the rugby field. All credit is due to the High School who started with one man down and used that motivation to make a really strong start when Felsted in truth appeared to go to sleep thinking it would be easy. A much improved performance by the forwards saw them dominate the scrum and the contact area so that the backs had regular and good ball, but sadly this was wasted all too often with simple handling errors meaning that we failed to hold onto the ball long enough to build sufficient pressure to make our advantage up front count. A well taken penalty at the end of the first half left the scores at 3-10, with the hope that the wind would provide the same benefit the other way round. Early in the second half heads were up with a good run from Sam Seacombe to score a try in the corner, to bring the scores to within 2 points. But, the succession of handling errors meant that Stortford were able to turn over the ball directly after our score and extend their lead once again. With the game poised at 8-15 right to the last, the 2nds were definitely in with a chance but in the last minute the opposition killed off the game with a try.
Man of the Match: Gavin Whyte
